"Waiting On" Wednesday: Cinder

Cinder
Marissa Meyer
January 3, 2012

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Okay, one of my (very ill-kept) book blogger secrets: my weakness is fairy-tale renditions. Ever since I devoured Ella Enchanted as a chubby-cheeked, happily-ever-after believing fifth-grader, I have always kept my eye out for a unique, no-holds-barred, turn it all topsy-turvy retelling that would grab my heart in the way a princess feels when she knows she's reached her happy ending.

(Yes. I'm very sappy about it, too.)

I don't want to jinx my enjoyment beforehand, because God knows how many times I've gone and let off my big mouth with a pre-mature "I know I'm going to love that book", and then sat in front of a blinking, empty post trying to figure out how to delicately write a review because I didn't like it at ALL. But seriously, Cinder looks like it's going to live up to the hype. I mean, cyborgs? Intergalactic struggles?

This sounds like it's going to be the most exciting sci-fi odyssey I've read since Disney planted aliens in the middle of Stevenson's Treasure Island and made it a planet.

This one does sound good! Thanks for sharing. I, too, like fairytale renditions.

"Beware the cyborg."

I LOVE Treasure Planet! It's so weird 'cause I haven't thought about that movie for years then my hubs got it out of the library last week for my 5 yr. old, and I fell in love with it all over again. Didn't really realize that was my first initial introduction to the Steampunk genre.

But that's totally off topic...

This book looks AMAZING, and I am hoping with you that it lives up to the hype, because I too love a good fairytale retelling. Wish it was coming out BEFORE Christmas though. Darn it. lol I'm off to Goodreads to make sure I've added this to my TBR.

We're definitely waiting on this one too. We heard about the series a while back and it sounds awesome! The authors is supposedly a minor celebrity in fanfiction circles, too. :)

Great WoW! :D I agree with you. I hate it when I go like "I know this book will be awesome, therefore I shall love it" kind of feeling, then I'm like, "How in the HAIL am I going to write a review? This book got no love from me!"

I actually just got this in the mail today, I can't wait to get started on it.
