...What a relief to find out that I'm not the only person who feels this way.
I have a feeling this is the sign of a truly talented author: when you get so attached to a character, you can actually feel their emotions and get caught off by the force of them. And people wonder how RPG forums and cosplaying came about.
The last time this happened to me was when I was reading House of Many Ways by the very talented (and much missed) Diana Wynne Jones. When Howl makes his entrance as the utterly infuriating child Twinkle - long story - I had to put my finger on the page and let a bit of Sophie's embarrassment out. It was that bad.
